Tinubu Departs Nigeria for South Africa, Angola Today

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to depart Abuja today, Wednesday, for a two-nation visit to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, where he will participate in two major international gatherings, the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit and the 7th African Union–European Union Summit.
OTN News further reports that, the trip was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who confirmed that the President’s first stop will be Johannesburg for the G20 Summit before proceeding to Luanda for the AU-EU meeting.
According to the statement, President Tinubu was invited to this year’s G20 Leaders’ Summit by South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa, the current G20 President, while a similar invitation had earlier been extended by Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva during his 2024 G20 presidency.
The G20 Summit, scheduled for Saturday, November 22 to Sunday, November 23, 2025, at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, will bring together leaders of the world’s 20 largest economies, alongside the European Union, African Union, and global financial institutions. Discussions will revolve around the theme, “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability,” to be explored across three plenary sessions.
The sessions will cover: Inclusive and Sustainable Growth, with a focus on trade, financing for development, and global debt challenges; A Resilient World, addressing disaster risk reduction, climate change, energy transitions, and food systems; and A Fair and Just Future for All, featuring debates on critical minerals, decent work, and artificial intelligence.
President Tinubu is also expected to engage in several high-level bilateral meetings aimed at advancing Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda and strengthening cooperation on regional and global peace, security, and economic development.
After the G20 Summit, the President will travel to Luanda for the 7th AU-EU Summit, slated for November 24–25, 2025. The meeting will convene African and European leaders, young innovators, and civil society organisations to deliberate on shared challenges such as climate change, digital economy growth, infrastructure development, creative industries, manufacturing, and agribusiness.
President Tinubu will be accompanied by key government officials, including Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake; Minister of Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole; and Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.
The Presidency, however, confirmed that President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria at the conclusion of the two high-profile meetings.
