OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has dispatched Vice-President Kashim Shettima to Kebbi State today to commiserate with the government and people of the state, as well as to reassure parents of abducted schoolgirls that the federal government is committed to securing their urgent and safe return.
OTN News further reports that President Tinubu, in a statement issued on Wednesday, condemned the abduction and expressed deep sadness over the attack, noting that he had received detailed briefings from military authorities on both the kidnapping in Kebbi and the killing of soldiers in Borno State.
The President also extended condolences to the Nigerian military over the death of several personnel, including Brigadier General Musa Uba, who were killed in an ambush by insurgents in Borno while on active duty.
“As the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, I am depressed with the tragic death of our soldiers and officers on active duty,” Tinubu said. “May God comfort the families of Brigadier General Musa Uba and other fallen heroes.”
The President equally lamented the disruption of education caused by the attackers, describing the perpetrators as “heartless terrorists” targeting innocent schoolgirls. He assured Nigerians that he had ordered security agencies to act swiftly and ensure the students’ safe return.
Tinubu commended Kebbi State Governor Mohammed Nasir Idris for his efforts to prevent the kidnapping in Maga, explaining that the incident—despite earlier intelligence warnings—highlights the need for stronger collaboration between security agencies and local communities.
He stressed that communities, particularly those in high-risk areas, must share timely intelligence with the military, police, and the Department of State Services (DSS), noting that public cooperation remains essential in the fight against terrorism.
“Security forces cannot succeed without the cooperation of Nigerians,” Tinubu said, adding that information from residents is “crucial” to defeating insurgency and improving safety nationwide.
The Vice-President is expected to meet with state officials, traditional leaders, affected families, and security operatives as part of the federal government’s response to the crisis.
