Ex-Oyo First Lady, Florence Ajimobi Disowns Viral Video, Warns Against AI Manipulation Ahead of 2027 Oyo Guber Poll

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that the Former Oyo State First Lady, Dr. (Mrs.) Florence Ajimobi, has raised the alarm over a viral video circulating on social media in which she is purportedly seen boasting that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will prosecute the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State as a “war.”
OTN News further reports as gathered that in the video, Ajimobi, widow of the late former governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, was allegedly heard claiming that the APC would deploy huge financial resources and leverage federal influence to wrest power from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
However, Ajimobi has categorically disowned the video, describing it as a fabricated product of artificial intelligence.
In a statement issued on Saturday, she said digital forensic analysis has confirmed that the footage is a “deepfake” generated through advanced AI technology.
According to her, the video was synthetically produced using generative artificial intelligence to manipulate both her lip movements and voice, falsely attributing statements to her that she never made.
“Digital forensic review has confirmed that this video is a synthetic fabrication created using generative AI. The footage is a deepfake, where artificial intelligence has been used to manipulate the lip movements and voice to deliver a script that Dr. Ajimobi never spoke,” the statement read.
Ajimobi warned that the incident represents a troubling example of what experts have described as the “weaponisation of AI” in politics, particularly as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.
She noted that the use of artificial intelligence to impersonate public figures and manufacture inflammatory or controversial statements poses a serious threat to democratic values and public trust.
“This video is a clear example of the synthetic deception that experts have warned will be used to influence the 2027 political cycle. The use of AI to impersonate public figures and manufacture controversial statements is a dangerous precedent that undermines the integrity of democratic discourse,” she said.
The former First Lady urged members of the public, media organisations, and security agencies to disregard the video and treat it as a malicious hoax designed to mislead and inflame political sentiments.
She stressed the need for heightened vigilance in an era of rapidly advancing digital technology, calling on content consumers and distributors to verify the authenticity of sensitive political materials before sharing them.
“In an era where digital manipulation is becoming increasingly sophisticated, it is vital to verify the source and authenticity of such inflammatory content before distribution,” Ajimobi cautioned.
Reaffirming her commitment to truth, fairness, and the democratic process, Ajimobi also disclosed that she is considering legal action against those responsible for creating and deliberately circulating the fake video.
“Dr. (Mrs.) Florence Ajimobi remains committed to the principles of truth and the democratic process. We reserve all legal rights to seek redress against the creators and intentional distributors of this fraudulent media,” the statement concluded.
OTN News observes that the development added to growing concerns about the misuse of artificial intelligence in Nigeria’s political space as preparations for the 2027 elections gradually take shape.
