Nigerians React Online To Tinubu’s Call For Ceasefire In Gaza

By: Abdulwasiu Akintunde

Following President Bola Tinubu's called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza at an Arab-Islamic summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, social media users on X formerly known as Twitter, in Nigeria have expressed mixed reactions, questioning his position on global issues while pressing him to address Nigeria’s domestic challenges.

This is coming after the President Tinubu returns to the country after the Arab-Islamic Summit where the President made the call for a ceasefire in the middle East.

One user, @PearlyBold, sparked conversation by saying, “Who is Tinubu? Israel, you know where to find that ‘druglord.’ Do millions of Nigerians a favour by making him head of Hamas.” The comment reflects some public frustration, with users questioning Tinubu’s influence on international matters.

Another user, @CalebKings59841, pointed to the complexities of the Israel-Gaza conflict, suggesting that only powerful nations like the United States could intervene effectively.

"People are talking, and he’s talking. Even the president of France couldn’t stop Israel," the post read. "World leaders are talking, and now he is too."

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News gathered that other comments focused on domestic issues, highlighting the need for attention on Nigeria's infrastructure.

User @donatus_ben remarked, "Among all the presidents there, I guess he’s the only one that doesn’t have electricity in his country. Tell Tinubu to focus on electricity in his country."

Similarly, @niycolodium emphasized that Nigeria is not an Islamic country and questioned Tinubu's participation in the summit.

"Please kindly send Nigeria’s president home to fix the problems of internally displaced people in Abuja,” they stated, referring to recent demolitions by the Federal Capital Territory administration that left many homeless.

Expressing concerns over Nigeria’s internal struggles, @AdamuHa93221616 addressed Tinubu as “T-Pain,” thanking him for his statement but pointing to urgent issues at home.

“We all agree there must be an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. But remember, there must also be a ceasefire in Nigeria. Starvation, insecurity, inflation, and lack of electricity are critical issues,” the user wrote, asking for relief from economic pressures.

The cacophony of online reactions by netizens underscore public expectations that, while Nigeria’s leaders may engage in international diplomacy, domestic challenges like inflation, insecurity, and infrastructure remain top priorities for many citizens.
