Islamic Movement Protests in Kano Against Trump’s Invasion Threat

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), popularly known as the Shiite group, have staged a massive protest in Kano to condemn recent remarks by former United States President Donald Trump threatening to invade Nigeria over alleged persecution of Christians.

OTN News further reports that, the protesters, numbering in their hundreds, marched across major streets in Kano metropolis on Saturday, brandishing placards and banners denouncing Trump’s comments.

Some demonstrators dragged the American flag on the ground, while others displayed effigies of the former U.S. leader in open defiance.

OTN News had earlier reported that Trump had recently labelled Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern,” claiming that terrorist groups were carrying out a genocide against Christians and warning that the U.S. would consider military action if the Nigerian government failed to stop the attacks.

He reportedly directed the U.S. Department of War to prepare a plan for possible intervention.

In response, the IMN described the comments as false, provocative, and capable of inflaming religious tension in Nigeria.

A statement signed by Abdullahi Danladi of the Movement’s Resource Forum dismissed Trump’s allegations as “inflammatory and dangerous,” accusing Western powers of deliberately spreading misinformation to divide Nigerians along religious lines.

“Our group stands firmly for unity and peaceful coexistence. The problems facing Nigeria are rooted in corruption, injustice, and political greed — not religion,” Danladi said.

“Both Islam and Christianity promote the same moral values, but foreign interests continue to exploit our differences for selfish purposes.”

The group, however, urged Nigerians to resist external interference and focus on addressing the real issues affecting the country’s stability.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has also rejected Trump’s claim of a religious genocide, stressing that terrorist attacks in Nigeria cut across all faiths and regions.

Government officials reaffirmed that the Nigerian military remains committed to combating terrorism without discrimination.

OTN News observes that, Saturday’s protest in Kano adds to growing domestic backlash against Trump’s controversial statement, as Nigerians across political and religious divides continue to condemn what they describe as a reckless attempt to destabilize the country.
