Trump Threatens Sanctions, Military Action Against Nigeria Over Killing of Christians

United States President, Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to the Nigerian government, threatening to halt all American aid and possibly launch military action if what he described as the “killing of Christians” in the country continues.
In a post shared on his verified social media account and amplified by MAGA Voice, Trump accused the Nigerian authorities of allowing Islamic extremists to commit atrocities against Christians and declared that the United States would no longer tolerate such attacks.
Trump wrote, “If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities."
He said he had instructed the U.S. Department of War to “prepare for possible action,” warning that any response would be swift and forceful.
“If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our cherished Christians! WARNING: The Nigerian Government better move fast!” Trump added.
The fiery statement comes days after the redesignation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” by the United States over alleged violations of religious freedom and persecution of Christians.
Meannwhile, Nigeria's President, Bola Tinubu had earlier rejected the classification, insisting that Nigeria remains a democracy governed by constitutional guarantees of religious liberty.
He maintained that his administration has been engaging both Christian and Muslim leaders to address security challenges affecting citizens across all regions and faiths.
However, Trump’s latest remarks have stirred global debate, with observers warning that such rhetoric could inflame tensions and strain diplomatic relations between Washington and Abuja.
