Ogun State's Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander, Akinwumi Fasakin, has urged drivers to prioritize rest before embarking on long journeys.
In a statement released by FRSC spokesperson, Florence Okpe, on Tuesday in Abeokuta, Fasakin stressed the importance of drivers taking breaks after extended hours of driving, recommending a rest period of 15 to 30 minutes after every four hours on the road.
OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News gathered that Fasakin's advice came in the wake of a tragic accident that occurred on Monday, claiming four lives and injuring eight others.
The accident, which took place around 2 pm at RCC in Ogbere along the Sagamu-Benin expressway, involved a Toyota Hiace bus.
According to Okpe, fatigue caused the driver to lose control, hitting the road divider before the vehicle somersaulted and caught fire.
Out of the 18 passengers onboard, eight men and ten women, four sustained fatal injuries, while the rest were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
However, the bodies of the deceased were transported to the morgue at the State Hospital in Ijebu-Ode.
