President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that his administration is making significant progress in overcoming the challenges of terrorism and banditry in Nigeria.
OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) reports that the Nigerian President stated this during his national broadcast on October 1, 2024.
President Tinubu, among other things, outlined ongoing initiatives to strengthen the nation's defense capabilities.
Discussing the progress achieved so far, Tinubu highlighted that strategic military operations and enhanced security measures have substantially weakened insurgent and bandit groups, leading to increased stability in previously affected regions.
The President emphasized that efforts are underway to eliminate all threats posed by Boko Haram, banditry, kidnapping for ransom, and other forms of violence across the country.
"In just one year, our Government has eliminated more Boko Haram and bandit Commanders than ever before," Tinubu stated.
He added that over 300 Boko Haram commanders have been neutralized by the country's security forces in the northeast, northwest, and other areas.
Additionally, the administration has also restored peace to over 100 communities in the North, enabling thousands of displaced people to safely return to their homes.
OTN News further gathered that Tinubu reiterated that ensuring lasting peace and security remains an unfinished mission for the nation's security agencies, and they remain committed to ending these threats as thoroughly as possible.
Tinubu concluded by expressing hope that, once peace is fully restored in many parts of the North, farmers would be able to return to their fields and resume agricultural activities.
