Ogun Invest DDG Sola Arobieke Commends Made-in-Mapoly Distinguished Entrepreneurs Awards, Calls for Entrepreneurship Beyond Vocational Business Model

The Special Adviser to Ogun State Governor on Investments, Ms. Sola Arobieke has commended Moshood Abiola Polytechnic for its strategic initiatives targeted at promoting pragmatic entrepreneurship among Nigerian youths, noting that collaborations between the academia and the industries are required to fast track attainment of relevant Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on Quality Education (SDG No.4) and 21st century model of entrepreneurship that transcends vocational entrepreneurship.
The Special Adviser, who also doubles as the Deputy Director General, (DDG) Ogun State Investment Promotion Agency (Ogun INVEST) gave this commendation and advisory on Tuesday when the Central Planning Committee of the maiden Made-in-Mapoly Distinguished Entrepreneurs Awards and Exhibitions 2024 Central Planning Committee paid her a courtesy visit at her OPIC House Isheri office in Lagos.
Arobieke who commended the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Centre for Entrepreneurship Development, (MAPCED), Abeokuta for taking it upon itself to help students discover, develop and give expressions to their inate entrepreneurship potentials, emphasized that students must be exposed to the strategic managerial dimensions of entrepreneurship in addition to the vocational skills model.
According to her, "the idea of restricting entrepreneurship students to the learning of vocations only is not only archaic but particularly limited in scope as the 21st century model of entrepreneurship makes ample room for intrapreneurs and entrepreneurs with managerial know-how who may not necessarily possess vocational skills to explore and exploit business opportunities effectively.'
OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that the Ogun INVEST DDG further assured the Central Planning Committee of the Maiden Made-in-Mapoly Distinguished Entrepreneurs Awards and Exhibitions 2024's delegation of the support of the agency for the entrepreneurship promotion initiatives of the Polytechnic in line with the developmental policy drives of the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration in Ogun State.
In his own response, the Chairman of the Made-in-Mapoly Distinguished Entrepreneurs Awards Exhibitions Central Planning Committee, Mr.Olufemi Orunsola who led the MAPCED delegation consisting other members of the Central Planning Committee namely: Dr.Mrs.Funmilayo Usifoh and Mr.Jide Adeleye, thanked the Special Adviser to the Governor of Ogun State for granting the delegation her attention, noting that the Entrepreneurship Development Centre under the able leadership of the Centre Director, Arc.Olabisi Baiyewu and the entire Polytechnic community cannot thank her enough for connecting the institution to relevant Ogun-based industries for sponsorship/partnerships.
For the records, the Made-in-Mapoly Distinguished Entrepreneurs Awards and Exhibitions 2024 is a strategic gown-meet-town initiative of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (MAPCED) Abeokuta through which selected successful Alumni of the state-owned Polytechnic who are doing outstandingly well in various entrepreneurial endeavours are billed to be recognized to serve as an inspiration to current students of the institution.
Box office record breaker, Funke Akindele (Jenifa), Adedoyin Kukoyi (Gbajumo Osere TV Host), veteran Media Entrepreneur and broadcaster, Adeyinka Adegbite,(Omo Baba Tisa), educational Technopreneur of the Mobile Classroom App fame, Akeem Salami, Adeola Yusuf, serial media and entertainment entrepreneur Bola Solate-Ayedun and a host of others are among the old students of the Polytechnic nominated for the MMDE Awards 2024.
Nollywood actor and University Lecturer, Dr. Hafiz Oyetoro is billed to deliver the Guest Entrepreneurship Lecture at the event.
OTN News further reports that the MAPCED delegation thereafter visited the Corporate Head Office of Rite Foods Limited at Opebi Lagos, where official correspondence on the nomination of the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Rite Foods Limited, Mr.Seleem Adegunwa as a recipient of the Role Model Entrepreneur were delivered to the Nigerian manufacturing company which is equally billed for recognition in the corporate award category on account of the successful and inspiring success story of the Rites Foods Limited brand in Nigeria.
