OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that tragedy has struck the campus of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, as the body of a missing final-year Microbiology student, identified simply as Blessing, has been discovered dead within a residential compound, days after she was declared missing.
OTN News further reports as gathered that Blessing was reportedly last seen on Sunday, and her absence raised concern when she missed a scheduled examination on Monday.
Alarm grew after messages allegedly sent from her phone claimed she had been kidnapped and that a ransom was being demanded.
According to sources, it was a close friend who initially raised the alarm about her disappearance. However, fellow students became suspicious when the same friend allegedly prevented others from searching Blessing’s residence, prompting fears about her safety.
Acting on a tip-off, officers from the Edo State Police Command reportedly discovered Blessing’s decomposing body within the compound. The discovery has thrown the university community into mourning and triggered widespread outrage.
The spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, Moses Yamu, confirmed the incident, stating that a full investigation has commenced to unravel the circumstances surrounding her death.
As of the time of filing this report, no official cause of death has been released, and it remains unclear whether the kidnapping claim was genuine or a diversion.
OTN News, however, observes that Blessing’s death adds to a growing list of security-related incidents affecting students in Nigerian tertiary institutions, underscoring urgent concerns over youth safety and campus security.
