MAPOLY:LECTURERS WARM UP FOR INDUSTRIAL ACTION, GIVES 7-DAY ULTIMATUM ON 35, 25 PER CENT SALARY INCREMENTS

Fresh industrial crises brews at Ogun state government owned Moshood Abiola Polytechnic as the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Chapter, has issued a 7-day ultimatum to the institution’s management to fully implement the 35 and 25 percent salary increments for workers of the institution, as approved by the government.

The Union's Chairman, Mr.Adegunle Tomisi who said this in a communique issued on Monday, April 29, in Abeokuta, noted that should the management fail to do the needful, the Union would resume the suspended industrial action immediately at the expiration of the notice.

The communique was issued at end of the Union’s Congress meeting of the association held in Moshood Abiola Polytechnic campus, Abeokuta.

According to him, "Union in session deliberated on issues of importance as they concern members of the association, and reviewed the responses of the Management to the legitimate demands of the Union arose from the resolution of the Congress held on 19th, March, 2024.

He revealed that the Congress has found the management’s response to her demands unsatisfactory given their non-committal to and partial fulfilment of their demands by which the management refused to treat the career progression of staff with all the seriousness it deserves.

Comrade Tomisi added that Mapoly ASUP had demanded for domestication of the approved 35% and 25% salary increment for the staff of Mapoly, payment of a minimum of four (4) Semesters out of the six (6) outstanding Semesters Part-Time claims/allowances.

“Immediate roll-out of APER forms of 2021/2022 for processing, immediately completion and release of 2020/2021 promotion letters and accompanying appointments, as well as immediately conclusion and release of the delayed Conversion, Upgrading and Regularisation list.

“Also, immidiate payment of arrears of earned allowances on the 2020 staff promotions and immediate conclusion of the 2019/2020 appointment exercise of the institution.”

The Union in its resolution reiterated its objection to the Management’s retrogressive staff career progression stance and requested the full implementation of promotion exercise of the Mapoly.

The Union directed the Management to immediately release its check-off dues and other deductions already made from staff monthly salaries, noting that it was disturbing the attempt by the management to tacitly undermine the potency of the Union by deliberately withholding its dues.

Open Television Naija reports that the ultimatum given to Management by the Union is coming at the eve of the conclusion of the first academic semester in the current 2023/2024 session, barely few weeks to the commencement of semester examinations by students as contained in the reviewed academic calendar of the institution.
