MC Oluomo Assumes NURTW Leadership Office Despite Court Nullifications

By: Abdulwasiu Akintunde

Musiliu ‘MC Oluomo’ Akinsanya has officially assumed office as the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), days after the Court of Appeal in Abuja nullified his presidency.

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News gathered that Akinsanya was previously elected unopposed during an election held at the union’s zonal secretariat in Osogbo.

However, a three-member appellate panel, consisting of Justices Hamma Akawu Barka, Nnamdi Okwy Dimgba, and Asmau Ojuolape Akanbi, upheld an earlier ruling by the National Industrial Court recognizing Baruwa as the rightful NURTW president.

The resumption of office marks Mc Oluomo's first public appearance as president since the court reaffirmed Ibikunle Baruwa as the legitimate leader of the union.

OTN News further gathered that the appellate court also imposed a cost of N100,000 against MC Oluomo, in favor of the respondents.

In addition, the judgment effectively reinstated Baruwa’s leadership while invalidating MC Oluomo's claim to the presidency.

Following the decision, prominent human rights lawyer Femi Falana called on the federal Government to enforce the court's ruling.

He urged the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to take immediate steps to reinstate Baruwa as NURTW president.

Despite the court’s decision, MC Oluomo’s assumption of office has raised questions about compliance with legal processes and the union's leadership disputes.
