There are strong indications that students who graduated from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta within the last couple of academic sessions will be hosted to a befitting convocation ceremony before the end of the first half of the year 2025.

The Rector of the Polytechnic, Arc. Dr. Babatunde Koye’ Jolaoso made this known earlier today, during his premiere meeting with all regular staff of the Polytechnic, accompanied by top management staff of the Polytechnic, at the Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD) Auditorium, Ojere Abeokuta.

Arc. Dr. Koye’ Jolaoso, who emerged as the first Alumni of the institution to be appointed Rector in the history of the 46 years old Polytechnic, highlighted critical areas of his administration’s focus to include: staff welfare, re-branding the Polytechnic, promoting oneness and exploiting collective wisdom, entrenchment of positive reward system and reactivation of NEEDS assessment blueprint for the institution, noting that his management team remained open to creative, innovative and home-grown solutions to the myriads of challenges facing the Polytechnic, especially, paucity of funds.

While speaking with OTN News in an exclusive interview after the well-attended, interactive staff meeting graced by both academic and non-academic staff, staff union members and leaders, Arc. Jolaoso revealed that the gathering was more of a family meeting where burning issues bothering on the peace, progress and prosperity of the Polytechnic were discussed.

He added that, “The forthcoming accumulated convocation is just one of the so many programmes of action outlined by his administration towards repositioning the institution to its place of pride among Polytechnics in Nigeria.”

The Rector, flanked by his Deputy Rector, Dr.Mrs.Yetunde Lanre-Iyanda during the exclusive interview, further revealed that “We are already seriously preparing towards the convocation, as it is not just going to be a convocation ceremony but a veritable platform for alumni member of the Polytechnic across the globe to come and give back to their Alma mater from were they have taken a whole lot academically, given that coincidence and providence has put one of them as the Rector of the Polytechnic.

He also added that “Hopefully by the next governing council meeting, we are going to make a presentation to that effect. And we have already started to factor in the cost implications of floating the befitting convocation ceremony."

Arc.Dr. Jolaoso therefore appealed to all Alumnus of the institution spread across the world to join hands with him and his management team to elevate the Polytechnic to enviable heights.

Also lending credence to the Rector's revelation on the forthcoming, much-anticipated convocation ceremony, Comrade Philip Adebanjo Ogunsipe, a Deputy Registrar in the Polytechnic who is also a non academic Congregation member of the Governing Council, noted that "Moshood Abiola Polytechnic is poised to ensure that subsequently, convocation ceremonies are floated regularly as a statutory activity as obtainable in other tertiary institutions of learning."

OTN News recalls that prior to the emergence of Arc.Jolaoso as the Rector of the Polytechnic, the last time the institution held a convocation ceremony was in the year 2016 when it had its 14th Convocation.
