OTN News recalls that the 12th Governing Council was reconstituted by His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, in recognition of the progress and development the 46-year-old Polytechnic continues to record.
A statement released by the Head, Public Relations and Protocols unit of the institution, Mr. Yemi Ajibola stated that "The reconstitution reflects the confidence and trust the Governor has in the Council’s ability to further advance the institution."
The Council Chairman, Emeritus Prof. Kamaldeen Balogun who acknowledged and appreciated the returning members of the 11th Governing Council for their selfless and commendable service, urged members to uphold the trust reposed in them by His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON.
In his words, “We are here based on trust. I had initially withdrawn my interest to return, but the Governor insisted on retaining the ‘winning team’.”
He further highlighted some of the challenges inherited during the previous Council’s tenure, including backlogs of unpaid salaries, dilapidated infrastructure, a demotivated workforce and systemic decline, among others.
According to him, “Challenges make life interesting, and when you surmount them, life becomes meaningful to you and others. This is exactly what we are witnessing today.”
He also explained that one of the notable achievements of the 11th Council was the adoption of timely salary payments, ensuring that salaries were paid before the 29th of every month, a practice that remains in place to date.
Additionally, he emphasized the procurement of medical screening equipment and materials for the Rabiatu Soaga Health Centre, which has since been fully deployed and has become a viable source of IGR for the Polytechnic.
Speaking further, “At the end of the day, we had cause to glorify God by successfully organizing our first-ever combined convocation, accumulated over eight sessions - from nothing to something.”
The Chairman urged members of the 12th Council to maintain the momentum in implementing transformative ideas and strategies, thereby sustaining and surpassing the legacy and achievements of the 11th Governing Council.
