OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that a postgraduate student pursuing her Ph.D. at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has reportedly been kidnapped during an early morning jog within the university premises.

OTN News further reports that a post made by a user identified as @theoriaku on X (formerly Twitter), who brought the incident to light, by disclosing that the abducted student is a personal friend, explained that she was taken by unknown assailants while on her routine morning exercise within the UNN campus, a place typically regarded as a secure environment for students.

“A friend of mine and a postgraduate student (Ph.D.) of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka is currently missing. She was kidnapped this morning while jogging on campus,” he wrote.

However, he added that the alleged kidnappers have reached out to the victim’s close contacts and are demanding a ransom of ₦10 million for her safe release.

OTN News observes that the situation has since sent shockwaves through the university community and the wider academic circle.

@theoriaku further alleged that the school authorities have shown little urgency or seriousness in addressing the situation.

“We’ve involved school security, but they seem indifferent about the entire case. Meanwhile, the kidnappers are demanding ₦10 million. Her personal details are attached to the earlier post. Any useful information would be appreciated,” he added.

OTN News, however, observes that, neither the University of Nigeria, Nsukka nor any security agency has issued an official statement confirming or denying the incident as of the time this report was filed.

OTN News further observes that, the lack of a formal response from the school has sparked outrage on social media, with many users criticizing the school’s security architecture and calling for immediate action.
