Folashade Oluwafemiayo Sets Two World Records As Team Nigeria Wins Two Gold, Three Silver, Two Bronze Medals At 2024 Paralympics

The fortunes of Nigeria at the Paralympics Games in France has increased as another Nigerian, Folashade Oluwafemiayo has set two world records, winning yet another gold medal as Nigeria coasts home with a total of 7 medals as the games wind to a close.

On the final day of the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, Team Nigeria, claimed another gold medal in stunning fashion as Folashade Oluwafemiayo set two World records. 

Oluwafemiayo who competed in the Women’s over 86kg category, made history by lifting 167kg with her 92.20kg bodyweight, setting two world records within two minutes in the Para Powerlifting event.

China’s Deng Xuemei, weighing 107.60kg, secured the silver medal with a lift of 155kg, while Egypt’s Nadia Ali, at 115.20kg, earned the bronze with a 145kg lift.

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News gathered that the Minister of Sports, John Enoh, praised Oluwafemiayo’s remarkable achievement, saying, “She has made history in powerlifting, achieving what no other woman has done. 

He said, "As Team Captain for Nigeria’s Paralympic contingent, she showcased immense skill, determination, and leadership.”

Enoh urged Nigerians to celebrate the champion, who brought pride to the nation.

With this victory, Nigeria's medal tally at the Paralympics stands at seven: two gold, three silver, and two bronze.
