FG Appoints KWAM 1 as Airport Security Protocol Ambassador After Abuja Incident

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that the Federal Government has announced plans to appoint Fuji music icon, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1, as an airport security protocol ambassador, following the controversy surrounding his recent conduct at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

OTN News further reports that this was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN).

According to Keyamo, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) will collaborate with KWAM 1 to promote proper airport security procedures, using his influence to boost public awareness and compliance.

“In light of his public display of remorse, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) will reduce his flight ban to one month and withdraw the criminal complaint earlier lodged with the police,” the statement read.

“FAAN will also work with the music star to engage him as an ambassador for proper airport security protocol going forward.”

OTN News recalls that the controversy erupted on August 5, when the Fuji legend was involved in a confrontation with airline staff and security officials at the Abuja airport while attempting to board a ValueJet flight to Lagos. The altercation led to a temporary flight ban and official complaints to law enforcement.

OTN News further recalls that last Friday, KWAM 1 had described the incident as “unfortunate” and expressed sincere regret over his actions.

However, with the new arrangement, the government says it hopes to turn the incident into an opportunity for public sensitisation on airport security protocols.
