OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as Popular Nigerian TikTok personality, Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, has taken to social media to decry what he calls an “unreasonable” tax demand from the Lagos State Government.
OTN News further reports that during a recent livestream with Afrobeats singer Peruzzi, Peller revealed that the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) had issued him a bill of ₦36 million for income tax.
“Taskforce said I should pay ₦36 million for tax. I don’t have anything. I just came into the limelight last year,” the content creator lamented, visibly upset.
In response, Peruzzi reminded his fellow entertainer that paying taxes is a civic duty for all Nigerians, disclosing that his own annual tax payments surpass the amount Peller was billed. He advised the TikToker to clear the debt to avoid possible legal sanctions.
Peller, however, maintained that the sum was excessive, stressing that the government had never provided him with any financial support despite his growing contribution to the entertainment industry.
He alleged that the tax demand may have been triggered after he publicly showcased his assets and revealed details of his TikTok earnings.
The influencer also claimed his income is generated entirely through social media platforms and not from activities within Nigeria, suggesting the LIRS assessment was unfair.
While Peruzzi encouraged him to seek an extension or negotiate with the authorities, Peller insisted the bill was “outrageous” and said he would continue to challenge it.
