Benue Massacre: Flood Blocks Makurdi–Abuja Road Hours Before Tinubu’s visit

By: Olufemi Orunsola
A few hours before President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s scheduled visit to Benue State, the Makurdi–Lafia–Abuja road has been rendered impassable after a heavy rainfall resulted in the flooding of the highway.
OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that on the affected route, which is a major corridor into Makurdi, the highway has been overtaken by floodwater, leaving motorists and passengers stranded.
Commuters have, therefore, been subsequently forced to either postpone their journeys or seek shelter in safer areas.
Meanwhile, the timing of the flood coincides with heightened security and logistical movements in preparation for the President’s one-day visit to commiserate with the people of Benue over the recent massacre in Yelewata, fueling speculations about the certainty of Tinubu’s visit to Benue as earlier announced.
Some Nigerian netizens have also raised concerns about the act of nature, wondering if it signifies a natural resistance by the spirits of departed victims of the massacre against the visit of Mr.President, who had earlier described the tragic incident as a communal clash and act of retaliation.
