The Federal Government has released funds to clear unpaid salaries for Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) members at federal Universities and settle outstanding pensions for retirees under the Nigerian Union of Pensioners Contributory Pension Scheme.
OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News gathered that the Director of Press and Public Relations for the Office of the Accountant-General, Bawa Mokwa, made the announcement over the weekend ,confirming that NASU members have already started receiving payments.
“The Federal Government has allocated funds to cover withheld salaries of NASU members at federal Universities and pension arrears under the Contributory Pension Scheme,” Mokwa said.
"Payments have begun, and many beneficiaries have confirmed receipt.”
This release comes amid an ongoing strike by NASU and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), which began Monday over a four-month salary delay.
The strike has disrupted operations in several Universities, with more institutions joining in solidarity.
Despite a recent directive from President Bola Tinubu to accelerate payments, the delay had escalated tensions, prompting SSANU to threaten further action if the situation is not resolved.
