2024 Ember Months Campaign: FRSC Calls for Smart Tech Adoption to Curb Road Crashes, Enhance Commuter Safety

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other key stakeholders have called for the adoption of smart technology to reduce road accidents and enhance commuter safety.
OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that this clarion call came at the 2024 Ember Months Campaign’ event,organized by FRSC and BusinessDay, themed “Smart Road Infrastructure and Commuters’ Rights to Safe Journey,”
The FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, during the campaign flag off highlighted the need for smart solutions to meet international safety standards.
The meeting supports the Corps' ongoing digital transformation efforts under the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Mohammed listed technologies such as speed and acoustic sensors, smart traffic lights, weather monitoring systems, and digital signage as essential to improving traffic flow, minimizing congestion, and aiding emergency response.
The Corps Marshal also introduced FRSC's mobile app, designed to help commuters report reckless driving and assert their rights.
In his remarks, BusinessDay’s Publisher, Frank Aigbogun, emphasized the importance of increased funding for FRSC to enable more effective road safety initiatives.
Aigbogun noted that with adequate resources, the Corps could upgrade equipment, expand personnel training, and strengthen public awareness campaigns to create a safer and more efficient road system for all Nigerians.
