In a worrying development, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has declared its Akwa Ibom State coordinator, Okun Christopher, and his driver, Daniel Asibong, missing.
A disturbing and mysterious disappearance has sparked widespread concern and alarm for the safety and well-being of two National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) staff members, who inexplicably vanished while embarking on an official assignment between Delta and Akwa Ibom States on July 29.
Despite concerted efforts and exhaustive searches, the whereabouts of the missing duo remain shrouded in uncertainty, leaving their families, colleagues, and the entire NYSC community in a state of distress and anxiety.
OPEN TELEVISION Naija (OTN) News reports that the NYSC spokesperson, Eddy Megwa, has issued a heartfelt appeal, urging anyone with even the slightest information regarding the disappearance to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
However, in a surprising and perplexing twist, the police authorities in both Akwa Ibom and Delta States have claimed to have no record or knowledge of the incident, raising serious questions about the coordination and effectiveness of efforts to locate the missing staff members.
OTN News revealed that this baffling disappearance bears an eerie and unsettling resemblance to a similar and equally disturbing incident that occurred last year, in which gunmen abducted eight NYSC corps members along a highway in Zamfara State while they were traveling to participate in an orientation camp in Sokoto State, north-west Nigeria.
Tragically, two of the corps members remain in captivity to this day, a year after their abduction.
As the search for the missing NYSC staff members continues, concerns are growing about the security and safety of NYSC personnel, as well as the adequacy and effectiveness of response measures in place to protect them from harm.
OTN News recalls that the incident has highlighted the need for enhanced security protocols and emergency response mechanisms to ensure the well-being of NYSC staff and corps members, who are serving their country in often challenging and vulnerable circumstances.
