Ogun Police Arrests Father in Viral Child Abuse Video for Assault and Cruelty to Minor

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that a father who recently went viral, seen in a video kicking and beating up a 3-year-old boy, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command.
The arrest of the man, now identified as Mr. Adekunle Odukaye, a commercial motorcycle operator residing at Oke Baale, Ado Odo Ota, for the inhumane treatment and physical assault of his three-year-old son, Boluwatife Odukaye, was made known by Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Police, CSP Omolola in a press release on March 1st, 2025, and referenced, AZ: 5310/OGS/PRO/VOL.7/340.
CSP Odutola revealed that on February 28, 2025, the Command became aware of a disturbing viral video depicting an adult male brutally kicking and maltreating a minor, an act that sparked public outrage and widespread concern.
She further revealed that in swift response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, immediately ordered an investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the shocking incident.
Following swift action by the Sango Ota Divisional Police Officer, Mr. Adekunle Odukaye was arrested and, upon interrogation, confirmed that he is the biological father of the child in the video. The Command, in collaboration with medical professionals, ensured that Boluwatife Odukaye underwent a comprehensive medical examination, including a head scan and bone X-rays at a reputable hospital in Ikeja, Lagos, to assess any internal injuries sustained from the abuse.
Accirding to her, "Mr. Adekunle Odukaye has been subjected to a clinical evaluation, and professional assessments have recommended therapeutic treatment and rehabilitation."
She assured that, "The Ogun State Police Command remains committed to justice and child protection, and upon the conclusion of the investigation, the suspect will be charged to court for prosecution."
Meanwhile, she emphasized that while the Command acknowledges the public’s concern and emotional response to the video, the Command pleads with everyone that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the safety and well-being of the child, maintaining that, "Members of the public and social media users are urged to remain calm and allow due process to take its course."
Concluding, she affirmed that, "We reaffirm our zero-tolerance stance on child abuse, domestic violence, and all forms of cruelty to minors. The Ogun State Police Command continues to work tirelessly to protect the vulnerable and uphold justice in our society."
