The United Kingdom (UK) Government has issued over 430,000 visas to Nigerians planning to study and move to the country in 2024.

In a meeting with the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, on Wednesday in Abuja, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr. Richard Montgomery, provided assurances regarding the safety of Nigerian citizens in the UK. 

OPEN TELEVISION Naija (OTN) News gathered as Montgomery emphasized, that the UK continues to be a secure environment despite recent unrest, thanks to its diverse population and robust security measures. 

He noted that the UK has established 60 special courts to address criminal activities linked to the unrest and reported that around 400 individuals have been arrested. 

The Government is committed to prosecuting those responsible for inciting violence through online hatred and disinformation.

NIDCOM Chairperson, Dabiri-Erewa, confirmed that there have been no reports of Nigerian casualties. 

She stated that NIDCOM remains in close contact with the Nigerian High Commission in London and other diaspora groups, all of which have reported no incidents involving Nigerians. 

Erewa praised the UK Government's quick response, particularly the arrests, and advised Nigerians to stay safe, vigilant, and follow travel advisories issued by Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
