Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has called for a statewide day of fasting and prayers to seek divine interventions over renewed Boko Haram attacks in parts of the North-East.

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that the governor made the announcement in a broadcast aired by Channels Television on Saturday, November 22, 2025.

Zulum urged residents to unite spiritually and socially to confront what he described as a troubling resurgence.

In his words, “Dear citizens of Borno State, I address you today not just as your governor but as a fellow citizen with a profound sense of patriotism and with every confidence who shares in your anxieties, hopes and desires for a peaceful and prosperous Borno, that the future of our dear state is brighter than ever.” Zulum reflected on the longstanding impact of insurgency, noting: “For the past 15 years, Borno State has been in the global spotlight, owing to the Boko Haram insurgency. This compicate affected every segment of our society, displacing millions of people across all 27 local government areas and dislocating the socio-economic activities and livelihoods of our people.”

He recalled that the state overcame the darkest period of the conflict through unity and support for security forces. He said; “By the will of God, we were able to overcome those harrowing days of insurgency by uniting as one, settling aside differences of ethnicity, religion and sectionalism.”

He also added that the relative peace recently achieved helped boost this year’s farming output. Despite recent sporadic attacks, Zulum acknowledged public resilience. He added; “Let me commend the people of Borno State for their steadfastness and commitment to the cause of peace. This has demonstrated through relentless prayers, passion and continued support for our gallant troops in the front line, the spillionjity of hunters and vigilantes.”

Declaring the special fast, he said: “I hereby declare Monday 24th November 2025 as a statewide day of fasting and prayer for the restoration of peace in Borno State and the country in general. On this day, I call upon every resident of Borno State, regardless of faith, to join in prayer for the past lasting peace and prosperity of our beloved state and Nigeria.” Zulum urged residents to seek divine protection: “I also ask the people to use this period to pray for divine protection against evil to us, sorrow to us and all enemies of peace.”

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security forces, community vigilance and dialogue where possible: “Finally, let me assure you that we will continue to embrace the welfare of our security forces, support community-based vigilance and pursue dialogue where possible without compromising the state’s integrity or the safety of our people.” The governor ended his address with: “Thank you. Long live Borno State. Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
