FG Takes U-turn, Says "No Plan to Implement 5% Fuel Tax Now"

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that the following numerous complains from Nigerians, specifically the labour union, who threaten nationwide strike, the federal government of Nigeria has struck out it proposed 5% tax plan on every petrol bought from filling stations.
OTN News further reports as gathered that the minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy, Wale Edun, who disclosed the government new move at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, said that the FG has no immediate plan to implement the five per cent Petroleum Products Tax contained in the new tax legislation.
OTN News recalls that the federal government proposed a 5 percent new tax bill on every petrol bought, noting that the generated revenue will be used for roads maintenance in the country.
However, OTN News observes that the controversial tax bill has continued to generate widespread anger among Nigerians, with the organised labour issuing an ultimatum to the government to cancel it or face nationwide strike action.
