Elderly Survivor Reveals What Gunmen Told Worshipers in Kwara Church Attack

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that, an elderly survivor of the recent attack on Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State, has shared chilling details of how gunmen stormed the church, opened fire on worshippers, and abducted dozens during Tuesday’s deadly raid.
OTN News further reports as gathered that, the survivor, speaking in an interview with BBC News, recounted how panic erupted inside the church the moment the attackers began shooting.
According to him, congregants attempted to flee, but the gunmen overpowered them after first attacking the church’s security guard.
He said the assailants ordered everyone to lie face down before selecting victims and forcefully taking thirty worshippers into the forest.
He added that, the bandits killed some of the worshippers before matching others to the bush.
OTN News observes that, the attack has sparked widespread fear and mourning across the community, with relatives of victims taking to social media to express distress.
A female farmer, in a viral Facebook post, revealed that her cousin and her cousin’s infant were among those kidnapped during the service.
In response to the escalating violence, President Bola Tinubu has suspended his planned international engagements to focus solely on high-level security briefings.
Also, the Kwara State government has also announced the closure of schools in five districts as a preventive measure against further attacks.
OTN News further observes that, the incident comes amid growing concerns over Nigeria’s deteriorating security situation.
The United States recently reclassified Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern,” citing rising violence and persistent attacks on civilian populations.
Security agencies are currently conducting search operations across forests and border routes in a bid to locate the abducted worshippers and apprehend the perpetrators.
