The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has pledged to protect the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) influence in Rivers State, warning against any external attempts to take control in a grand political bravado style.
OPEN TELEVISION Naija (OTN) News reports that the former Governor of Rivers State threatened to disrupt the political stability of any PDP Governor who tries to meddle in the party’s affairs in Rivers State.
This statement follows a meeting of PDP Governors in Taraba State on August 23, where they discussed the ongoing crisis in the Rivers State PDP and expressed support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
During a speech at the PDP State congress in Port Harcourt, Wike emphasized that the party's structure in Rivers would remain intact under his watch.
He issued a stern warning to any Governor attempting to interfere, stating, "No one will take away the PDP structure from us while we are still alive."
Wike also hinted at retaliatory measures against those who might try, saying, "I will ignite political trouble in your States if you challenge us. If you disrupt the peace we have in Rivers, be ready for the consequences in your State."
The crisis in Rivers PDP intensified after a falling out between Wike and his predecessor, who did not attend the congress.
The event saw the presence of several Federal and State Lawmakers, former Council Chairmen, and other Party members.
