I Wasn't Fighting Fubara, I'm Only Fighting Against People Who Want to Steal What They Did Not Work For - Wike

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Saturday, said that the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, remains his political son and that he has never fought with him, adding that he was only fighting against people who want to steal what they did not work for.
OTN News further reports that Wike who made the statement in an interview with BBC Pidgin, where he clarified his position on the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, said that he has no personal issue with Fubara but he is only opposing individuals whom, he believes are influencing the governor for selfish reasons.
According to him, “That one is not a battle. He (Fubara) is my boy, he is my son, why will I fight with him? I’m only fighting against people who want to steal what they did not work for.
“When you don’t defeat them, they will think you… Defeat them to the final stage. Now, they are ashamed because they are being defeated. They are the ones pushing Fubara,” he added.
OTN News recalls that Wike and Fubara have been at odds since 2023, a conflict that has sparked a prolonged political crisis in the state.
The situation escalated earlier this year when President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, leading to Fubara’s suspension in March.
Reports say Fubara has since apologized to Wike. The minister also revealed last week that the embattled governor visited him at his residence alongside two APC governors in a bid to restore peace.
