Tension in Kano As Protesters Hit The Streets of Gaya Over Dissolution of Emirate

Protesters have taken to the streets of Gaya area of Kano on Sunday to express their dissatisfaction with the dissolution of the emirate.

 The Gaya Emirate is one of five emirates affected by the recent Kano Emirates Council law by the Kano State House of Assembly and swiftly assented to by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Thursday, leading to the dissolution of the five Emirates and subsequent order to reinstate Emit Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the sole Emir of Kano, a development that warranted the dissolution and dethronement of the Emir of Gaya who is of the four additional Emirs instituted by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

Despite the initial peaceful vacation of his palace by the dethroned Emir, Alhaji Ado Bayero on Thursday night and Alhaji Ibrahim AbdulKadir, residents of Gaya have rejected the dissolution of the emirate. 

Open Television Naija gathered that Protesters, on Sunday, took to the streets of Gaya with placards and began to chant anti-government slogans, alleging that the move has political undertones and is a setback of justice.

The situation is currently tense, with presence of armed security personnel in the area. 

Open Television Naija's correspondent in Kano, taking cognizance of security protocos have promised to supply details of the protests and any further developments from the area and other parts of the ancient Northern city of Kano.

Open Television Naija reports that the recently deposed Emir of Kano,

Ado Bayero returned to Kano in the early hours of Saturday, into the waiting hands of a crowd of supporters in the wake of an announcement by the Police formation in the state that the police was bent to enforce the decision of the court against the enthronement of the Emir. 

The deposed Emir, who is believed to have broken his silence since the occurrence of the his dethronement episode in the unfolding royal drama of thrones in the state, has since reportedly taken his residence in the ceremonial palace of Kano Emirate located barely a distance away from the main Kano Emirate palace with heavy police presence.

Similarly, Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has relocated to the Palace after receiving his letter of appointment from the by governor Abba Kabir Yusuf late last week with heavy presence of operatives of the DSS in the company of the governor.
