President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to embrace religious tolerance, stressing that freedom of choice of faith is crucial to peaceful coexistence and national development.

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that President Tinubu made this appeal on Saturday, October 4, while speaking during the funeral service of Lydia Yilwatda, mother of APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda.

Tinubu openly shared his personal story of how religious tolerance and harmony exist in his family.

He revealed that although he is a Muslim, his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is a pastor, yet their differing faiths have never caused conflict in their marriage.

In the President's words, “Hate is not an option for us. Love is what we should preach — love for one another. Nobody determines what God has ordained. God’s plans and prophecies are what truly matter."

“I inherited Islam from my family, and I didn’t change. But my wife is a pastor; she prays for me. There’s no conflict. I have never tried to convert her. I believe in the freedom of religion. We pray to the same God and will all answer to Him one day. What matters most are our deeds, character, and love for others, not our method of worship,” he President.

While concluding his advocacy for peace, the President also prayed for the peaceful repose of the late Lydia Yilwatda, describing her as a woman of strong faith, humility, and service who lived a life worthy of emulation.
