Super Falcons Earn ₦1.5 Billion Prize for Winning WAFCON 2024

Following their stunning victory over Morocco at the final match over thecweekend, the Super Falcons of Nigeria have received a cash prize of $1 million (approximately ₦1.5 billion) for winning the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that the new African women champions will be the first beneficiaries of a new prize money for champions recently announced by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) which introduced an 100% increment in the prize money for the champions of the continental tournament.
According to team sources, 30 percent of the prize money — about $300,000 (₦450 million) — will be disbursed directly to the players as bonuses. Each squad member is expected to receive several millions of naira in addition to allowances and match-winning bonuses from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The victory marked Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON title in 13 appearances, reinforcing their dominance in African women’s football. The team came from two goals down to secure the win, with goals from Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi, and a late winner by Jennifer Echegini.
OTN News, in earlier reports recalls that the Super Falcons of Nigeria did not only win the tournament but had also swept three out of the five awards available on the table for the tournament.
