The Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, has called on Nigerians to support locally made clothing to foster nation-building.

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that Musawa made this appeal at the inaugural African Fashion Festival Vogue (AFFV) in Abuja, themed “Thread of Africa: Weaving Fashion and Culture,” hosted by emerging designer Firdausi Mohammed.

The Minister commended the festival for spotlighting African designs on a global stage, emphasizing its role in elevating Nigeria’s fashion industry and empowering Northern voices in the sector.

"It’s time to champion homegrown fashion products as they can stand on the global stage," Musawa noted.

A prominent Diplomat present at the African Fashion Festival Vogue, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Retired Maj.-Gen. Sohail Khan, praised the festival, affirming that the festival is a veritable means of celebrating Africa’s identity and cultural richness.

He highlighted Pakistan’s own textile traditions, noting how centuries-old embroidery skills and textile innovations position Pakistan as a global textile leader.

"Fashion extends beyond clothing; it is an expression of identity, creativity, and shared cultural heritage," he stated.

AFFV organizer, Firdausi Mohammed, explained that the festival’s goal is to showcase Africa’s fashion legacy, creating a networking space for designers to showcase Africa’s cultural diversity through fashion.

The event, covered by the News Agency of Nigeria, featured established and emerging designers, a diplomatic presence, and a vibrant runway show celebrating Nigeria’s cultural heritage.
