"Speak Up Against Dangerous Driving" Says Ogun FRSC Corps Commander, Woos Celebrity Special Marshals on Media Advocacy

The Corps Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC) Ogun State Sector Command, Corps Commander Akinwunmi Fashakin has urged commuting members of the public to get more involved with safety on Nigerian roads by speaking up against incidences of dangerous driving in the society, noting that Celebrity Special Marshals of the FRSC have a significant role to play in publicizing the campaign against dangerous driving.
OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA(OTN) News reports that the Corps Commander made this appeal on Wednesday while playing host to a delegation of the Celebrity Special Marshal unit of the Federal Road Safety Corps (CSM, FRSC), Ogun State unit who paid him a visit at his Ibara Sector Command office in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital.
The Corps Commander revealed that the FRSC treasures the significant contributions of members of the Celebrity Special Marshal unit to road safety advocacy and advocacy in Nigeria, noting that the social influences wielded by celebrities who volunteer to engage in road safety advocacy helps to shape the attitudes of different strata of members of the public, ultimately driving behavioural changes.
CC Akinwunmi, who emphasized that the cycle of converting knowledge base of people about road safety to befitting attitudes and positive road safety behaviours remains the psychology behind the operations of the FRSC in Nigeria and not the philosophy of punishing offenders to generate revenue.
OTN News further reports that the CSM FRSC delegation that visited the Corps Commander included the State Coordinator, Ogun CSM FRSC unit, Hon Kehinde Soaga(DGN), CSM Olufemi Orunsola (CEO, OTN News), CSM Adejoke Somoye (an outstanding Ogun-based independent broadcaster and cultural entrepreneur, popularly known as Ewa Ede, Mr Kenny Saint (CEO, Yoruba Broadcasting Network) and Mr. Dare Adedotun who are both incoming inductees of the CSM FRSC in the state.
Responding to the Corps Commander's appeal for more media engagement by its members, the State Coordinator, CSM FRSC Ogun state, Hon.Kehinde Soaga informed the Corps Commander that the latest Road Safety Jingle newly launched by the unit in Abeokuta focuses on the need for passengers to speak up against dangerous driving and drunk driving by drivers in the state.
He also assured the Corps Commander that "given the cooperation of the sector command for activities of the Celebrity Special Marshals in the state, the unit is poised to embark on more strategic communication of the theme of the year's Road Safety Campaigns, being; "Speak Up Against Dangerous Driving" throughout the peak period of the end of year which marks the last month of the ember-months.
