Reflect on Your Legacy Before Criticizing Tinubu -Presidency Replies Obasanjo, Describes Him As Man With “Tremendous Capacity for Mischief”.

In swift response to recent criticisms of President Tinubu as a failed leader, the Presidency has lambasted former President Olusegun Obasanjo, describing him as a man with “tremendous capacity for mischief”, accusing him of lacking the moral authority to comment on governance in Nigeria

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that the attack followed Obasanjo’s remarks during the Chinua Achebe Leadership Forum at Yale University, where he questioned the leadership of former President Muhammadu Buhari and incumbent President Bola Tinubu

OTN News further reports that, Sunday Dare, Special Adviser on Public Communications and Orientation to President Tinubu, in a statement, described Obasanjo as a man with a “tremendous capacity for mischief” whose narratives often misrepresent facts.

Writing via his X handle, Dare stated, “Obasanjo’s hallucinations and revisionist tendencies are well-documented. He can not rewrite history or escape scrutiny of his own tenure.”

Referring to controversies during Obasanjo’s presidency, Dare highlighted the $16 billion power project, which, he claimed, failed to yield results.

He said, “There has been no explanation as to how he wasted a whopping $16 billion in generating megawatts of darkness across the nation.”

OTN News observed that Obasanjo’s alleged undermining of democracy also came under fire, particularly his failed third-term bid, which Dare described as a significant blow to the nation’s democratic process.

Dare remarked, “Democracy suffered mortal wounds under his watch, only capped by his murderous rage for an ill-fated third term.”

He, however, urged Obasanjo to apologize for not laying the critical infrastructure Nigeria needed to progress.

Furthermore, the presidency dismissed Obasanjo’s anti-corruption stance as hypocritical, asserting that his claims do not resonate with Nigerians.

Dare said, “It is actually laughable that the former president’s pretentiousness about fighting corruption is not cutting any ice in the eyes of the general public.”

Using a Yoruba proverb, Dare implied that Tinubu’s actions are more important than Obasanjo’s critiques.

He said “In this market called Nigeria, the man with the Renewed Hope Agenda is the one that matters,” emphasizing Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to reform the country.

Dare further criticized Obasanjo’s legacy, stating that successive administrations have had to grapple with the problems created during his tenure.

He praised Tinubu’s leadership, saying, “President Tinubu is now spiritedly battling to put the nation back on the track of development. His Renewed Hope Agenda is delivering visible progress.”

In closing, Dare urged Obasanjo to reflect on his role in Nigeria’s challenges rather than undermining the efforts of current leaders.

He added, “We thank former President Obasanjo for agreeing that ‘Yes, there is hope.’ That’s the Renewed Hope Agenda President Tinubu is about, and it’s on track.”
