President Bola Tinubu has departed Nigeria for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Sunday, to participate in the 19th G20 Leaders’ Summit, slated for November 18–19.

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News gathered that the summit, hosted by Brazilian President and G20 chair Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, will bring together leaders from the world's largest economies, including the European Union, African Union, and key multilateral financial Institutions.

According to a statement by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the event will focus on the theme, "Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet," addressing issues like poverty reduction, global governance reforms, sustainable development, and energy transition.

Onanuga emphasized that Nigeria’s participation aligns with its ongoing advocacy for global governance reforms, particularly its bid for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.

President Tinubu will also engage in bilateral talks during the summit to further Nigeria’s socio-economic reforms.

OTN News further gathered that accompanying the President are key officials, including Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, Idi Minister of Livestock Development, Mukhtar Maiha, Minister of Art, Tourism, Culture, and Creativity, Hannatu Musawa, Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, and Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.

Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria after the summit concludes.
