Former U.S. President Donald Trump has shared his reactions to the recent assassination attempt on his life, giving details of his conversation with President Joe Biden in the aftermath.
In his response during a conversation on X, Trump suggested that the two attempts may be part of a divine plan stating that "Perhaps it’s God wanting me to be president to save this country," he said adding that "there’s something going on."
As OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News earlier reported that on Sunday, September 15, 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh was arrested in connection with an alleged attempt on Trump’s life in Florida.
Trump also revealed that President Biden reached out to him on Monday evening to check on his well-being and seek advice.
"He called to make sure I was okay and asked if I had any suggestions. We do need more security, especially with 50,000 to 60,000 people attending my events," Trump remarked.
OTN News revealed that the former President reiterated his belief that the "radical left" was responsible for the attacks, pointing to the individuals involved in both the Florida incident and a previous attempt at a July rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
"There’s a lot of rhetoric from Democrats about threats to democracy, and both attackers appear to be from the radical left," Trump stated.
This marked Trump's first public comments on the Sunday attempt while he was playing golf at his West Palm Beach course.
He described the day as "peaceful" until shots were fired near the fifth hole.
Trump recounted, "We heard four or five shots, but the Secret Service immediately knew it was gunfire and grabbed me."
According to Trump, the shots fired came from his protective detail after spotting an assailant armed with an AK-47.
"A Secret Service agent saw the gun’s barrel in the bushes and started shooting. Those were the shots we heard," Trump explained.
OTN News recalls that the former president humorously noted that he had to abandon his golf game after the agent rushed him away in a cart, saying, "I would have loved to sink that last putt, but we decided to get out of there."
Trump praised law enforcement for their swift action, adding, "The Secret Service did a fantastic job, as did the sheriff’s office and all involved."
