The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has raised an early alarm over distribution of two result sheets, instead of one, to polling units, as well as late movement of election materials for the local government elections.
OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA OTN News reports that the opposition party has equally questioned the credibility of the ongoing local council elections, faulting the late distribution of materials.
OTN News correspondents observed that election officials were still collecting materials from the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) office in Abeokuta, the state capital as at 7:32 am, less than thirty minutes before the scheduled 8 am election commencement time, noting that the shortcomings will disenfranchise many voters.
The State Agent of the People's Democratic Party in the state, Waliu Oladipupo who spoke with journalists earlier today, expressed his concerns saying, "Imagine somebody that is going to Ogun waterside do you think they will get to their destination on time having slated the election for 8:am. I doubt the credibility of the election.
“We want the time to be extended so that voters can vote. Secondly, they should ensure that the results are declared at the polling units.
Meanwhile, OTN reports that as at the time of filing this report, voting is taking place smoothly in different parts of the state while most streets are deserted, recording next to no vehicular movements in line with the movement restrictions announced by the state government.
OTN News correspondents have it on records that as at 8.35 am, there was no presence of electoral officers and security agents at Joga-orile park polling unit, hence few voters who turned up there were left stranded at the polling unit.
Similarly, at Ibese, U.A.M.C, ward 11, a small head count of voters was recorded but there were no OGSIEC officials and security personnel on duty.
The story was not different at other polling units which included: State Hospital, ELEJA/Oke-Ola, Poly gate, Egbo Alaparun, U.A.M.C school, Pahayi, Ita Iyalode, Orita kajola, Library/Rural health center, as there were no election officers nor electoral materials on ground as at 10:20 am.
OTN News recalls that the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) chairman, Barr. Babatunde Osibodu had announced that the scheduled poll is to start between the hours of 8am to 2pm.
