No Going Back on December 1st Ultimatum for States to Implement N70,000 Minimum Wage Says NLC

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has reaffirmed its December 1 deadline for all States to implement the newly approved minimum wage.
Recall that President Bola Tinubu signed the new minimum wage bill into law on July 29, 2024, increasing the national minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000. Subsequently, the NLC set November 30 as the deadline for compliance, warning that an indefinite strike would commence in any State failing to implement the new wage by December 1.
OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News gathered that while over 30 State Governors have already adopted the N70,000 minimum wage, others, including Zamfara, Sokoto, Cross River, and Nasarawa, are yet to finalize agreements on the matter.
Speaking on the deadline, NLC spokesman, Benson Upah, emphasized that the union’s directive remains unchanged.
"Most States have complied, but compliance by the majority does not mean all States. Every State must adhere to the new minimum wage or face industrial action," he warned.
