The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has denied the reports making the wrongs in a section of the media that it has shut down the Port Harcourt Refinery barely two months after its reactivation.

NNCPL, in a statement released by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye on Saturday 21st December 2024, made it known that Port Harcourt Refinery is fully operational, noting that "the attention of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has been drawn to reports in a section of the media alleging that the Old Port Harcourt Refinery which was re-streamed two months ago has been shut down."

Soneye affirmed that the company wishes to "clarify that such reports are totally false as the refinery is fully operational as verified a few days ago by former Group Managing Directors of NNPC."

He further affirmed that "preparation for the day’s loading operation is currently ongoing."

The company, therefore, enjoined all members of the public to discountenance such reports as they are the figments of the imagination of those who want to create artificial scarcity and rip-off Nigerians. "

Meanwhile, the development is coming on the heels of a reduction in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), otherwise known asP petrol by Dangote Refinery and the NNPCL
