The first General Manager of the first private Radio station in Nigeria, Mr. Olusesan Ekisola, a veteran Broadcaster, has been nominated and confirmed to be honoured into the CultureGateAfrica Hall of Fame and Unforgettable Awards 2024 as a recipient of "Most Unforgettable Father of FM Radio Broadcasting."
OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that the organizers of the CultureGate Hall of Fame and Unforgettable Awards, the Kalahari Media Group, led by its President, Morgan Okunuga have slated the awards ceremony to take place at the FreedomnPark, Lagos Island on December 27, 2024.
A letter addressed to the legendary broadcast journalist and media administrator, sighted by OTN News, and signed by the group's President, Okunuga revealed that Sir Ekisola's "innovative contributions to FM Radio revolution with creative and refreshing freestyle new waves FM broadcasting" form the basis for his nomination and confirmation for the Hall of Fame Awards.
The letter further reads, "This, coupled with the breeding of the then 90's generation next broadcasters most of whom are today's FM Radio owners, singles you out as "Most Unforgettable Father of FM Radio Broadcasting".
OTN News further reports that CultureGate Africa Hall of Fame and Unforgettable Awards is targeted at celebrating Unforgettable Africans and Africans in Diaspora who have contributed significantly to the promotion of Africa's development via their various professional callings or endeavours.
OTN News also recalls that the awardee, Olusesan Ekisola, who turned 70 years old on June 26, 2023, joined Radio Nigeria in 1973, moved on to Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation (OGBC) Abeokuta, before he assumed the responsibility to lead the station’s FM channel, OGBC 2. This is where he ruled the air waves in the 80s till the early 90s, giving Radio Nigeria a run for its money, as the Controller of Presentation, before joining Nigeria's first private Radio station, Ray Power FM.
