Spokesperson for the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Benson Upah, has raised concerns that the price of petrol in Nigeria could eventually skyrocket to N5,000 per litre.
OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News gathered from an interview by "Weekend Trust" where Upah responded to the recent hike in fuel prices, expressing disappointment over what he described as a breach of the agreement made between the NLC and the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Upah emphasized that the removal of fuel subsidies, contrary to Government claims, was never reversed.
He questioned the rationale behind the sharp increase in the pump price, which rose from N650 per litre, with projections suggesting it could reach as high as N1,500 or N2,000 per litre.
The NLC spokesperson warned that the situation could escalate further, predicting even higher prices if corrective measures aren't taken.
"This signals that Nigerians haven't seen the worst yet. We might end up paying up to N5,000 per litre for fuel," he said.
Upah added that while the hope is to avoid such extreme scenarios, the burden of such decisions will ultimately fall on the Nigerian people.
