FG Declares Public Holidays for Christmas, New Year Celebrations

The Federal Government has announced public holidays to mark the Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year celebrations. The holidays are scheduled for Wednesday, December 25; Thursday, December 26, 2024; and Wednesday, January 1, 2025.
OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that the declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement released on Monday by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
The Interior Minister, on behalf of the Federal Government, extended warm greetings to Nigerians and encouraged them to embrace the spirit of the festive season.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo said,“The Christmas season signifies love, peace, and unity. I urge all Nigerians to use this period to reflect on these values and to foster harmony and mutual understanding within their families and communities."
He further stressed the importance of national unity and progress, saying, “The Christmas season is not just about celebrations; it is a time for spiritual reflection and national renewal. As we commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, let us demonstrate kindness and extend goodwill to one another, irrespective of our differences."
He also assured citizens of the Federal Government’s dedication to ensuring peace, security, and prosperity across the country while expressing optimism about the Renewed Hope Agenda of Tinubu’s administration, describing it as a pathway to a prosperous economy in 2025.
Concluding, the Minister said,"On behalf of the Federal Government, I wish all Nigerians a merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Let us remain steadfast in our commitment to building a peaceful and united nation."
