The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has identified social media personality, Okuneye Idris, popularly known as Bobrisky, as a person of interest in an ongoing investigation.
OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) gathered this in a statement issued by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Udo, NIS explained, “The Service wishes to inform the public that Okuneye Idris is a person of interest over recent issues of public concern.”
NIS officers reportedly intercepted him at the Sème border on Monday while he was attempting to leave the country.
The statement was titled "‘Nigeria Immigration Service Intercepts Idris Okuneye (Bobrisky) at Sème Border Attempting to Flee the Country."
Bobrisky’s legal troubles began in April 2024, when the Federal High Court in Lagos sentenced him to six months imprisonment for naira abuse. Although officially incarcerated at Kirikiri Prison, reports surfaced suggesting that he spent only three weeks in the facility before being relocated to a private residence.
This fueled widespread allegations of bribery, with claims that N15 million was paid to officials to facilitate his early release and special privileges.
OTN News further gathered that the controversy intensified in late September 2024 when social media influencer VeryDarkMan (VDM) leaked an audio recording in which Bobrisky allegedly claimed that music artist Falz and his father, prominent lawyer Femi Falana, approached him during his imprisonment.
In the recording, Bobrisky purportedly said they demanded N10 million to secure him a presidential pardon.
In response, Falana and Falz issued a cease-and-desist notice on October 16, 2024, demanding an apology and retraction of the statements, which they described as defamatory.
However, Bobrisky denied making the claims, insisting that the leaked audio was not his and that the Falanas should direct their concerns at VDM instead.
Additionally, commencing on Monday’s incident, the NIS reiterated its commitment to border security stating, “In line with our responsibility of securing Nigeria’s borders, the NIS intercepted Okuneye Idris, alias Bobrisky, at the Sème border as he attempted to exit the country.
"He is currently undergoing interrogation and will be handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation.”
The NIS assured the public that it remains professional in the discharge of its duties and will continue to manage the nation’s borders with civility and integrity.
