The Federal Government has announced that under the newly introduced curriculum for Basic and Senior Secondary Education, all students in Nigeria will be required to graduate with at least two practical skills.

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News gathered that the Education Minister, Prof. Tahir Mamman, disclosed this during the 68th National Council on Education (NEC) meeting in Abuja, themed “Innovation, Digital Technology, and Entrepreneurship: Tools for Educational and National Development in the 21st Century.”

Mamman emphasized that the revised curriculum integrates knowledge, skills, and values, aiming to equip students with competencies that align with economic demands and foster productive lives.

He warned that without adaptation, the current educational framework risks becoming obsolete as technology disrupts various industries, including education.

In addition, the minister further highlighted that the new education policy prioritizes quality learning, skill acquisition, access, and equity, forming part of the Government’s broader Education Transformation Agenda.

Mamman however reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to upholding international treaties that ensure the protection of learners, teachers, and educational facilities.

In his remarks, the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Tanko Sununu, stressed the need for the education system to embrace entrepreneurship, creativity, and digital technology to align with societal needs.

He argued that education at all levels must evolve to address the challenges posed by globalization.

Similarly, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund, Senator Muntari Mohammed, added that digital literacy must become a core component of the curriculum, assuring that legislative efforts would support stability in the education sector.
