Netizens React as Akpabio Mistakenly Says Tinubu Was 'Buried' Instead of Buhari During Senate Plenary

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that a gaffe made by the senate president, Godswill Akpabio, during a plenary session, captured in a video which has gone viral on social media, has sparked mixed reactions from Netizens online.
OTN News further reports that, Akpabio speaking during a plenary session, said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had been "buried" instead of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to him, “The whole country is very proud of what this administration has done in the way and manner President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was honoured and was buried,” Akpabio said, before pausing and fumbling for a correction.
OTN News observes from the video that Akpabio realising the gravity of the mistake, quickly added, “President Buhari, rather. Sorry. President Buhari was honoured and buried. You will also observe that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not be forgotten for what he did during the burial ceremony of late President Muhammadu Buhari.”
OTN News recalls that the Nigeria’s former President, Buhari, passed away on July 13, 2025, at the age of 82, while receiving medical treatment at a clinic in London, United Kingdom and his remains were buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, last Tuesday, which President Tinubu attended the funeral alongside his wife, Senator Remi Tinubu, and Akpabio.
However, OTN News gathered that Netizens have reacted to this mistake, with some criticising and labeling what the senate did as a great error, while some defended him.
