Netanyahu Declares There Will be No Palestinian State Despite Western Recognition

By: Israel Adeleke

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has declared that no Palestinian state will ever be established, pushing back against fresh international momentum for Palestinian sovereignty following coordinated recognition from several Western nations.

OTN News further reports as gathered that Netanyahu, speaking on Sunday in a pointed message directed at the leaders of Britain, Australia and Canada, said that their decision to recognise Palestine amounted to rewarding terrorism in the aftermath of the October 7, 2023 Hamas attacks that triggered the ongoing war in Gaza.

According to him, “I have a clear message for those leaders who recognise a Palestinian state after the horrific massacre on October 7: you are granting a huge reward to terror."

“And I have another message for you: it will not happen. No Palestinian state will be established west of the Jordan River.” he said.

OTN News observes from information gathered, that the joint recognition by Britain, Australia and Canada marked the first time three Western powers simultaneously acknowledged Palestinian statehood.

OTN News further observes from information gathered that Britain and Canada became the first G7 nations to take the step, a move expected to influence others, including France, at the UN General Assembly opening Monday in New York.

UK Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, said the decision was aimed at reviving prospects for peace.

“Today, to revive the hope of peace for the Palestinians and Israelis, and a two-state solution, the United Kingdom formally recognises the State of Palestine,” he posted on X.

With the same vein, the Canadian Prime Minister, Mark Carney, echoed the sentiment, writing, “Canada recognises the State of Palestine and offers our partnership in building the promise of a peaceful future for both the State of Palestine and the State of Israel."

Australia’s government also issued a statement aligning with the recognition, while Portugal was expected to follow suit later on Sunday.

The developments add to mounting diplomatic pressure on Israel, which faces growing international criticism over its prolonged military campaign in Gaza.

Palestinian leaders have for decades sought recognition of their sovereignty, with support now intensifying in Western capitals as the conflict drags on with devastating humanitarian consequences.
