Nationwide Strike Updates:Workers Shut Down National Assembly, Federal Secretariat
The National Assembly and Federal Secretariat Abuja Have Been Shut Down By Labour Unions

Reports reaching Open Television Naija have it that the National Assembly and the federal secretariat have been shut down against any activities following the commencement of the nationwide indefinite strike declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and the Trade Union Congress.
Open Television Naija gathered that the Parliamentary Staff Union of Nigeria (PASAN) on Monday shut down the National Assembly in compliance with the indefinite strike action declared by Organised Labour to press home demand for living wage for Nigerian workers.
Open Television further reports that the second gate to the complex has been blocked with two 16-seater buses while the gate to annex building which would have been the alternative entrance for workers was blocked with officials of both unions on ground to implement and monitor the strike.
Workers of the National Assembly who were denied entrance could be seen loitering around the assembly complex discussing the development.
As at the time of filing this report, officials of both Unions refused to speak with journalist as they claimed to lack powers to speak with the press.
They advised journalists to contact presidents of both unions to attend to their inquiries
It would be recalled that the leadership of NLC and TUC held a marathon meeting with the leadership of the NASS on Sunday at the instance of the National Assembly and a top delegation of the federal government led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to persuade labour to shelve the strike but the meeting ended in a deadlock.
