OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that the 47th President of the United State of America, Donald Trump, has signed an order directing government agencies to stop issuing citizenship documentation for babies born in the country to parents without legal status.

OTN News further reports that this new development was disclosed in an order signed and titled “Protecting the Meaning and Value of American Citizenship,” just hours after he resumed office.

OTN News observed that the order instructs federal agencies to deny U.S. citizenship to children born in the U.S. if their mothers are in the country illegally or on temporary visas, and the father is neither a U.S. citizen nor a lawful permanent resident.

OTN News further observed that the order which would take effect from February 19, will deny U.S. citizenship, including passports, to children born on U.S. soil unless at least one parent is a U.S. citizen or green card holder.

The birthright order is part of a series of immigration directives aimed at reversing Biden-era policies.

It is believed that the order would also enforce a crackdown on border security and immigrant communities.

Meanwhile, OTN News had earlier reported that shortly after the president took the oath of office as the 47th President of the United States (POTUS), he shut down the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) website, an app-based programme that allowed migrants to schedule legal entry into the United States through official ports.

It was also said that Tens of thousands of migrants were stranded at the southern border as a result of this new action steps the president took.

OTN News also reported that the CBP One app, was introduced by the Joe Biden administration in early 2023, and was designed to offer migrants a regulated pathway to seek asylum in the US.

The programme allowed 1,450 migrants per day to schedule an appointment for processing, and since its launch, more than 900,000 people have entered the US using the system.

However, the Trump administration’s decision changed everything.
