Transporters plying the Lagos Ibadan Expressway as well as commuters have had to groan over the multiplier effects of heavy traffic gridlock arising from ongoing road reconstruction along the Sagamu-Interchange axis.

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that the gridlock captured in pictorial form on Thursday morning was alarming.

The gridlock which attracted an urgent traffic advisory from the Ogun State Traffic Road Agency (TRACE) extended towards the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and Abeokuta-Kobape-Siun- Sagamu Expressway (PMB Expressway).

The TRACE TRAFFIC ADVISORY urgently released by TRACE Public Relations Officer, Commander Babatunde Akinbiyi noted that the unusual gridlock was in view of the ongoing construction at the Sagamu-interchange axis.

The release, signed by Commander Akinbiyi stated, "Consequently, travellers are advice to take the alternative routes below, particularly for those that are just driving towards the axis and for those that are already held up in the traffic jam, they should be patient and apply caution as TRACE, POLICE and the FRSC are already on ground and on top of the situation to resolve the traffic conflict.

As advised, OTN News observes that the development put traffic pressures on alternative routes such as the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, the Abeokuta-Siun-Ofada to link Mowe-Sagamu- Ikorodu Road and Siun Ogere Road.

The traffic advisory assured motorists and commuters that, "Nevertheless, operatives of security and safety services mentioned above are on ground managing the traffic challenge by preventing route violation and reckless driving, while the Construction Engineers are being contacted to open some closed axis to ease the gridlock and the backlog the unfortunate stand still has generated," noting that any inconveniences is highly regretted.

Meanwhile, some motorists who made detour to the Lagos Abeokuta route as an alternative have equally complained bitterly about their travel experience on the alternative route where significant parts of the road are also currently undergoing reconstructions.
